Who would think that my innocent trip to Bright Ideas seminar would end up with such a lucky catch?
I was gobsmacked to find out how many people out there willing to help and just be there.
Everyone who participated in a seminar was quite impressed with state of the art equipment. The new Innoversity room is ready for prototyping space explorations!
But I was more impressed with people. So here is my next exploration:
P.S. Laura did not mind the slightly loud music- she thinks it is quite together with the story:)
Last Meeting of Artbridge members have set a date for a proposed exhibition 22January 2010. We are planning to run it for two weeks.
There are two more departments to be contacted by the end of November.
The front page of our Website is being designed. We have purchased a domain and set up email address : artbridgekingston@gmail.com
Also we have started research on our competitors and prospective mentors.
Last Thursday we have attended private view at Wanted Gallery, Notting Hill and had a taster of our new world : “Art on a stage”.
We met some interesting people and have enjoyed the experience. Our picture appeared on A Gallery’s Facebook!
We have scheduled a Committee Meeting on the 13th January 2010. We were very hopeful with submission of the artwork and put a date of 1st December, but it is more likely to be 1st January.

On Monday, 16th November we had our first pitch. We presented our company to MA Product Design students.
The Tutor { } was very good at asking very practical questions: how are we going to be financed?
Students have asked us if we have sponsors?
It went quite well, considering it was the first and we WERE quite scared…
The meeting today was marked by unanimous choice of the Business Name which will be revealed on Friday.
I have asked members of our team to meet in Market Square to film a short video about us and our role in the team.
Do you believe in Coincidence?
We have ended up having Breakfast at Tiffany’s Local Hero.
I was hoping to film short introduction to each member of the Team, but we also had so much to catch up…
The Theme of the Exhibition will be the Moving force of the work with Artists. So after last week’s brainstorming and about the result of 20 options,
we narrowed down to three and then…
by majority of votes to just One.
Our Theme is a Local Hero.
We are going to present artists with the Theme and let them express their feelings about their Local Hero.
I am very proud of our choice as it bears the positive and very emotional aspect of our society.
It can also be interpreted in many ways and so it does not limit creativity.
My role in Team building today was to inspire with positive ideas, abolish excessive structuralisation and analysis.
We need to move on – loads of work – we have no time to argue about globalization of recycling materials.
My Local Hero is:

Sergeant Olaf Schmid
My inspiration for Promoting Young Artists:
I have shot this video on our Pre Halloween night.
This is what has inspired me to Promote Artists.
This video will be taken off in a few days due to the limited permission from the Head of Obliette.
Hope you will watch it!
I really enjoyed MACE Presentations. I think they are valuable part of the process of development of ideas.
It was also really good to hear the responses which have highlighted the weak and strong points.
For our business it had been great to hear Sebastian’s suggestion of contacting the Estate Agents, for it has confirmed our intention of approaching people with the idea of Promoting their Space with our Exhibition.
Also I am looking forward to hear about government initiative in regards of empty properties.
This area is at the core of our business idea as it was Squatting Artists that had inspired me.
I was a little bit disappointed that Andrea did not consult with any of us on the video she presented. She said she would prepare Power Point, which she said she was really good at, but than turned up with the video.
I did not see much relevance in those movie trailers to our idea of promoting Art Work and using recycling materials. Also they lacked humanity, which is very important part of our task.
Will try to persuade everyone to have joint presentation next time, so that we can all have input.
It is a pity that our discussions during the last three meetings where not considered at all. The important role of the Artist in this project had been ommited.
This is again due to the lack of coordination and excessive desire to control by one of the members.
There are good and bad points of being good speaker. It was quite adamant to me yesterday, that Hitler and other crazy dictators, just had amazing “Speaking Talents”, where they were manipulating crowds.
Sometimes it is not what people say, but how they say it, that attracts attention.
It can be used for good cause, but it also can bring disruption and domination of chaos.
The amazing thing about artists – is that they are usually more sensible than the rest of the world…and they do not need to be Managed, but they need to have a space to sell and show their work.
This is the video we made just before Halloween…
It was a task to get everyone together… but we did it!
The Idea is to use a bottle of Wine as analogue for work of Art.
This brings to mind Charles Thomson question: “Is my shoe art?”
We have discussed the Information Flow that will be the core of our business
I did not like the idea of “managing the Artists”. I prefer to call it the creative collaboration.
Our input will be in initiating the process, creating a brief, supplying materials where applicable and promoting the end result.
We seem to disagree about the emphasis on Recycling materials.
One part of the group thinks we should make recycling a center point of the business. Another – we should work with Artist’s needs and specifications.
I have been closely associated to artistic process and I feel that it is due to the Artist to decide on the choice of the media.
If we supply cheap recycling material in big quantities it might be limiting creativity in a way and dictating.
Last Friday was all about making prototyping the easiest ans simplest way possible. The goal is to strip the whole business structure to it’s basics, bare minimum.
This will allow us to see other ways we can develop rather than jumping straight to the final stage.
We have watched some of our students perform Role Playing and it was quite animating with Halloween costumes on. Also we acknowledged ourselves on the behavioral sampling and scale modelling amongst other prototyping techniques.
Didn’t Picaso say “Every child is an artist – it is the task to remain one when we grow up”? I guess prototyping is a little bit like that – it is a play with any objects or means we can find nearby.
It was a coincidence that we filmed our three personas that very morning with team9 and it actually involved prototyping- in fact Role Playing.
I think Prototyping is very important stage of business development, but I find it tiresome and predictable. I guess I am too much of a grown up. And it is my challenge to change my perception.
Today we managed to come up with some solutions to our key elements. We identified that we will work with three of them: Recycling materials, Artists and Property.
The whole emphasis is on promoting green materials and encouraging artists to use them, by making them freely available.
We will contact Design departments to offer them spaces to express.
I will research on property options. We are going to create a profile for a business that will attract the property owners, who will see the benefit of being associated with us.
I have brought out the analogue of a bottle of wine as a work of art. We will be making a video when we meet next. Yesterday turn out is disastrous (two out of five). We will only be able to succeed if all of the team show commitment.
We have come up with solution and filmed my 9 year old daughter for the Empathic method. It was an improvisation. And despite of the criticism of “using just one actor”, I consider it quite informative.
